ALESSANDRA BB
Born in Belarus. Based in Barcelona, Spain.
After studying art in Belarus, Alessandra decided to shift her focus of attention to fashion design when she first came to Spain. This experience has influenced a lot her future path and helped her find her unique artistic style.
While working as a designer, Alessandra became keenly aware of the pressure women face to conform to the beauty standards established in the society. So, she decided to address this topic through art, to break the social taboo, to show women as they are – with all of their imperfections, with the transformation a female body goes through during the pregnancy or while aging.
“I believe that psychology works through the body. We always change. Every significant event in our life changes us. The relationships with other people become a reason for huge transformations”, - Alessandra says, explaining why the human body, physicality have become the subject of her artistic research.
Alessandra BB insists that life is a magnificent process of transformation and growth, not a static image.
Alessandra finds inspiration in cubism and surrealism. She creates expressive oil paints where deliberately unproportional bodies interact with each other to reach compositional balance. Paying tribute to her work as a fashion designer, she sometimes dresses her works in textile and experiments with soft fabric hybrid objects.
