Olga Kirienko

Born in Russia in 1981 to a Russian mother and Ukranian father.

Based in Catalonia, Spain.

After having built a career in marketing and advertising, Olga decided to pursue her lifelong passion for art and enrolled in painting and fine art studies at the Surikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow.

Later, after relocating to Spain, Olga  Kirienko discovered her new artistic language thanks to the course she took at Casa Aymat in Sant Cugat del Valles, near Barcelona. Initially a painter, Olga transitioned to tapestry, where she hand-weaves her creations using weaving machines she designed and built herself.

Her work, characterized by a primitivist style, delves into various subjects, with a particular focus on human relationships, ancestry and the search for inner peace.

Olga Kirienko finds the weaving process to be meditative and enjoys the meticulous, rhythmic nature of the craft. However, Olga continues to push the boundaries of her artistic expression, finding harmony between the structured process of weaving and the free-flowing nature of other artistic forms. She also values spontaneity in her art practice and sometimes switches to other media, such as oil painting, creating three-dimensional objects, and installations.
