Tania Rivilis
Born in Ukraine, based in Europe. Her artistic journey began when she moved to Germany in 2012.
Tania Rivilis works in a wide rang of themes and techniques, though she is mostly recognizable by her signature expressive male portraits. Her creative process is about honoring a craft, a process, a passion. Using vivid colors and bold brushstrokes, she seeks the boundaries of the portrait genre. Combining empty areas and competing color fields, the artist suggests the viewer to wander around the canvas and read the stories her characters are eager to tell. Tania says that even in the single portraits she emphasizes the presence of the silent conversation partner, of the relationship behind the imprinted scene. She insists that one can only be portrayed through a prism of a relationship with another to create a coherent image. Otherwise the portrait would only be an empty shell.
In 2022 Tania Rivilis received the prestigious William Lock Prize for the most timeless portrait, with real feeling for paint and aesthetic potential.
Tania’s paintings are now part of museum, gallery, and private collections all over the world, such as Jonathan and Stuart Hyman collection, State Museums of St. Petersburg and Astoria Hotel.
The traditional canvas isn’t the only space where Tania’s artistry thrives. Since 2021 she is taking active part in the NFT community. Her NFT art is in the NFT collection of Cozomo de Medici, Misan Harriman (Tezos Foundation) and Trevor Jones.
