NOT YET

Yulia Bas’ first solo show in Barcelona presents a compelling fusion of past works and new art pieces, including large-scale canvases in mixed media, intricate art objects, and immersive installations. As a part of this show, Yulia will present a series of performances, where she delves into the complex themes of identity, self-confidence, and self-validation.

"It’s all gonna be alright in the end. If it’s not alright, it’s not yet the end."

Fernando Sabino

Yulia's art explores transitionality and healing, emphasizing on the emotional labor required to navigate change. She acknowledges that this journey is neither linear nor predictable, and rarely comfortable.

Her work focuses on the passage through suspended moments, where something or someone is in the process of becoming. This space, neither anchored in the past nor in incomplete desired state, reflects the unpredictable, non-linear nature of time and recovery, where trauma can resurface and submerge again.

Through various media and practices, Yulia's psychological journey and her art collapse into one and become indistinct. Drawing from Dadaism and icon painting, her pieces often resemble frozen moments of mitosis or fragmentation—each detail holding the potential for wholeness. In this illusory space, she accept the necessity of mourning former life, searching for a personal iconography that captures the volatility of transformation and the hope embedded within it.

In this exhibition, works from various series and periods are presented without chronology, allowing them to form their own correlation as they explore themes of immigration, relationships, and spirituality in Yulia’s search for a personal iconography.
